How it works

Glycolic acid is an alpha-hydroxy acid naturally occurring in sugar cane. It penetrates the skin and loosens thickened surface layers that give the skin a dry, rough, sluggish appearance. As these layers are removed we are able to reveal a fresh, healthy skin with a smoother texture.

What are the treatments like?

Most people experience a mild-moderate tingling sensation as the peel is applied. This generally lasts only a few minutes or can sometimes last until the peel is removed. There are different strength peels ranging from 20%-70%, so the intensity of the treatment depends on the strength being used.

What skin types can be treated?

As the peels are available in different strengths they are suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skins. During a consultation we will advise you on the correct strength for your skin’s needs.

How are the treatments performed?

Treatments take 10-20mins and are usually performed on a weekly basis for 3-6 peels, depending on the condition of the skin. During the course we will adjust the strength of the peel accordingly. A single peel acts as a quick-boost for the skin, as there are instant visible results from the very first treatment. Once the dead skin is removed skin care products will be able to penetrate more easily which will help maintain the results.

How do I care for my skin while having treatments?

Regular procedures increase the penetration of creams and active cosmeceuticals. We will recommend a professional home maintenance program including clinical strength AHA's and vitamins which repair and nourish the skin and an SPF 30+ moisturiser to protect the newly formed skin. It is advised that you refrain from any facial waxing procedures at least 7 days pre & post procedure and the use of sunbeds is not recommended throughout the entire course. It’s important that anyone having peels (of any kind) is using a sunscreen SPF 30+ on a daily basis.

What are the side effects?

You will experience dry, flaking skin for 3-4 days after treatment as the dead skin starts to shed. Some people experience slight redness which resolves after 1-3 days.
