How it Works

Super Intense Pulsed Light (SIPL) hair removal works by emitting pulses of intense light into the hair follicles. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the follicles and converted to heat. This action disables the hair and destroys the cells responsible for growing new hairs.

What areas can be treated?

All face and body areas, except under the eyebrows, are suitable for treatment. This includes legs, arms, back, chest, buttocks, bikini line, full bikini, underarms, upper lip, between brows, chin, breasts, neck, shoulders, feet, toes and anywhere else you may be concerned about.

Is it painful?

This is a common concern for most of our clients. Our IPL machine is equipped with a cooling system which cools the skin on the area before, during and after treatment. This makes the treatments quite tolerable and pain-free. Most people describe it as a 'flicking' or 'snapping' sensation followed by warmth & tingling that quickly subsides a short time afterwards. Topical anaesthetic cream is an option for more sensitive areas, if preferred.

Possible side effects

The most common side effect is a sunburn-like sensation, redness and localised swelling of the skin. This usually lasts anywhere from 1 hour up to 48 hours. In rare instances, light grazing or scabbing can occur which is only temporary and will subside over a short period of time.

How many treatments will be needed?

All permanent hair removal treatments are only effective on hairs which are in the growth cycle (anagen phase) at the time of treatment. Unfortunately, not all hair follicles are at this stage at the same time. Therefore, for effective permanent results, a course of 5-10 treatments are necessary to insure we treat the hairs as they enter the correct phase for treatment.

How far apart are the treatments?

Treatment intervals vary depending on the area being treated. For maximum results from each treatment, we advise that facial areas be treated at 4 weekly intervals and body areas treated at 6-8 weekly intervals. Treatment procedures can take from 10 minutes to 1 hour depending on the size of the area.

Are the results permanent?

Results vary depending on hair and skin type. Our hair removal practitioners use medical-grade equipment to ensure maximum results from each treatment. Studies have shown that most people can achieve up to 80-90% reduction in hair loss and remaining hairs are lighter and softer. This is achieved when the hairs are treated consecutively at the correct intervals.

Maintenance treatments may be required at 6-12 monthly intervals after a course is completed, this is just a single touch-up treatment that ensures we can spot treat any stray hairs that may have been missed, without encouraging further growth by resorting back to temporary methods such as waxing.

How much does it cost?

Prices vary depending on the size of the area being treated. Prices range from $79 - $600 (per session) for larger body areas. A consultation will enable us to give you an exact price quote to suit your needs. We do give a reduced price for packages where multiple areas are treated at the same time. We are also proud to offer 2 complimentary touch-up sessions after 8 consecutive sessions have been performed on the same area.

Consultations

Although these treatments are suitable for most people, there is some contributing factors that make a small percentage of people unsuitable candidates for treatment. A thorough consultation is advisable, during which we can find out relevant medical history and check for suitability. This also gives us the opportunity to answer any questions you may have, explain pre and post treatment instructions and to perform a test patch.

A 30 minute consultation is $55, however this is fully refunded upon commencing treatment. If you are medically unsuitable for treatment, no fee is charged.
